Tempers flare after another heavy show!
14:00hrs : 29th June, 2008

The last minute change of venue did not stop the willing fans that followed us to the Cocoa beach hotel to witness the sweet science on the evening of the 28th June 2008 in Eastland thanks to the free entrance

Hundreds of fans turned out in large number to support one of the exciting matches that even made the  hotel staff glued to the ring through our the afternoon.

There was drama as the former super middle weight world title contender George Adipo was engaged in verbal jabs with the current top heavyweight Raymond ‘KingKong’Ochieng.

Adipo, claimed that King Kong was still a novice and he might behead him should he dare step in the ring with him

Raymond responded by saying that Adipo has been chickening out every time they are to meet in the ring.

It’s at this juncture that Adipo got off his table and removed his shirt, then asked for the gloves.

‘I will behead you should you step in that ring with me, if you last with me two rounds in that ring then i will quit boxing for good’ stated Adipo.

It took the intervention of the promoter and the national amateur boxing coach Ken ‘valdez’ Ochieng

Ray claimed that Adipo was trying to get an excuse after seeing King Kong demolish journey man Robert Ochung in 2 rounds.

Ray wants that fight badly especially after demolishing Thomas OKusi in two rounds last week.

He promised to give the so called grand fathers a golden handshake [KNOCK OUT, KO]

It’s however unclear whether Adipo might agree to step into the ring with Raymond or there will be another excuse this time.

The fight is penciled for next month to give Adipo time to tune.

“The idea is to attract as many sponsors and give back to boxing the good efforts we have been through. There has been some good humorous rivalry as boxers continue to banter over who will see the light of the day on the streets. Otieno said he will employ the same tricks he used against Esonga when he vanquished him at the last meeting on split points. National featherweight champion John Gicharu has a date with George Owenge in a 4 rounder while Time Bomb prospect Charity Mukami will slug it out with Rose Ebole in a super-middleweight’s female contest. Mukami who has three months at the Time Bomb stable is raring to go and yearning at another go with Conjestina Achieng’ currently in Germany for training. “She (Mukami) is an astute student opf the game and I believe she is able to take local boxing to the next level,” said Mukami. Former locomotive driver and WBA rated flyweight James Wanene in his 40s reckons age is nothing that a number. Wanene has promised to annihilate Mika Elly in a rematch he won on split points.

Munika makes things tough for Briton
10:00hrs : 17th June, 2008

At the York Hall, East Londan Bethnal Green on sunday 15th, Kenyan featherweight Geofrey Munika had a hard fought six rounder against Briton Ashley Theophane. Fighting at Light Welterweight for the first time, Munika made it hard for the experienced Briton, though Theophane who was fighting for the first time at home after 8 years in America, managed to knock down the Kenyan in the fourth round

Theophane didn't find the range until the latter half of the rounds, eventually catching Munika with a right uppercut from way down low, and then scoring with some short, sharp lefts in the final rounds. The second half of the rounds featured more of the same, with Munika proving difficult for Theophane to lock onto. While Theophane was busy in the first two rounds, his blows lacked accuracy. Most of his punches whistled harmlessly past

Munika's chin or over his head. That wasn't all due to rust on Theophane's part, to be fair - Munika, his shorter opponent made himself tough to hit, displaying admirable head movement early and making for a rather frustrating target.

Theophane caught Munika with a left hand into which drove Munika on the canvas for a count seconds ahead of the bell in the fourth round. Munika opened the final round with a pair of crisp lefts, but Theophane held him at bay with the comfort that he had already done enough to win the fight. Teopane won on all judges scorecards 60-53.

'Although it was a bit hard Munika was a good opponent to go up against right now, and I'm pleased I could go out and get the win in front of the home crowd." The Briton said,

'Munika's performance on Sunday was enough to earn him another fight in the UK. He will remain in London for the next month in preperation for other upcomming fights' said Timebomb Promotion's Atomic Bunde who had accompanied Munika on his return from London on Tuesday Morning. 'British Matchmaker Roy Hilder has kept his word and offered the veteran Kenyan a number of fighting oportunities there'

Munika ready for Theopane
19:00hrs : 14th June, 2008

Vetran super featherweight Geoffrey Munika will trade leather with British boxer Ashely Theopane (20-3-1) in 6 rounder. The fight will take place on sunday 15th June at York Hall, Bethnal Green in London. The tough Kenyan is in the wake of landing a four fight promotional deal with re known British Matchmaker Roy Hilder if he puts up a good show in tomorrow's fight.

Theopane is a former Global Boxing Council welterweight champion. Munika was initially meant duel Ricky Burns of Scotland but the promoters switched his opponent at the eleventh  hour.

Munika, trainer John Adieng and Timebomb Promotions' Atomic Bunde who organized the match-up have been in London for the past 10 days in pre-match preparations. While training at the Ultrachem TKO Boxing Gym in E1, East London,  Munika looked good and very sharp as he sparred 10 brutal rounds with the unbeaten Ugandan ABU Super Welterweight Champion Badru 'The Striker' Lusambya (who is now based in UK) while the local press scrambled for photo shots when they stood toe to toe

Meanwhile, While in London, Mr. Bunde has had the opportunity to meet with various sports organizations and the Olympic Committee of the London 2012 Olympics. The Timebomb Boss together with the London 2012 Olympics Committee are seeking to find a way for the Kenyan boxers to the 2012 games to train in the UK for acclimatisation before the games. The arrangements for such training for Kenyan amateur boxers would start immediately after the Beijing Olympics and the qualifiers for the 2012 games if the National Olympics Commitee of (NOCK) agrees to its terms.

Gicharu sparkles as Kiilu triumphs
11:00hrs : 04th May, 2008

Former Kenya featherweight champion David Kiilu needed only 65 minutes to knock out 35 year old journeyman Mwangi Wacuka in Time Bomb’s Acid Test show at Club Afrique on Sunday.

It was such a stunning comeback to a boxer who hadn’t set foot onto the ring in nine months.

Wacuka, one of the pioneer pugilists in the advent of Kenyan bare-chested game in the late 80s, lay prostate on the canvas after failing to master southpaw Kiilu’s tricks. The blast was a huge concussive left hook that slumped the cagey pugilist on the canvas. Scoring referee Wycliffe Marende didn’t need to halt the proceedings’ instead he and the medical crew rushed to ensure the boxer’s safety. Wacuka was soon back on his feet again and staunchly confessed it really was a blast. The match stated off with early exchanges but fears that the match would turn into a cliffhanger evaporated soon enough when the former East and Central Africa and WBF International champion took charge of the proceedings. And even as it appeared that Kiilu had an easy one against the 35year old Wacuka, his Coach Kevin Mulama bragged of his graceful material. “He (Kiilu) is still sharp and trim on his flair. I believe he has been able to shake off the rust impressively well as he looks forward to redeeming his career,” Mulama noted.

In another match, Time Bomb’s prospect and national featherweight champion John Gicharu, 26, won a unanimous points decision against 38year-old Mombasa based Bob Obala.

Judge Dan Oyombe and James ‘Demosh’ Omondi had it 60-55 while Judge Shaban Ogola saw it 60-54.

Obala was somehow a threat in the first two round and Gicharu had to be on top of his game - which he was. Many had expected Gicharu to secure a stoppage but failed to capitalize on follow-ups. But it was a one horse race in terms of quality punches landed.

The much awaited female fight between Mombasa based Cecelia Akisa and Time Bomb’s Charity Mukami failed to take off after the latter couldn’t honor the match up. But a fuming Mukami read malice in the occurrence.  “She visited Conjestina (Achieng) on the eve and then her training staff could hardly locate him. I suspect Conje is involved. Maybe she wants to frustrate me,” Mukami who will face Conjestina in a grudge rematch on May 17 said. The super-middleweight match between Joseph Odhiambo and Mohammed “Boddie” Orungi also failed to take off with claims of the former withdrawing at the eleventh hour. Risum Boxing-managed James Kimori saw off 34 year old Caleb Aminada in the welterweight four-rounder while Samson Onyango won a split points decision against ken Oyolo. Judges scored it 39-37, 40-37 and 39-37.Obadiah Mwangi also won a majority points decision against Robert Ochung in the heavyweight division. This was the second fight this year for Time Bomb coming in the wake of post election skirmishes. Promoter Bunde said its encouraging that boxers have now up to something positive after their training was distracted in the violence.

BRING ON CONJE, SAYS MUKAMI
18:00hrs : 02th May, 2008

AFTER giving Conjestina Achieng blushes in her debut last year, Charity Mukami is optimistic she will rule the roost at her middleweight division.

Mukami squares off with debutant Cecilia Akisa from Mombasa in a 4 round scheduled non-title bout at Club Afrique on Saturday. The fight is promoted by Time Bomb Promotions of Atomic Bunde and sanctioned by Kenya Professional Boxing Commsiion (KPBC).

Mukami noted that he is at pains to see Conje on the canvas when they renew her rivalry in Nairobi on May 17.

Mukami was breathing fire as boxers were taken through the scales by 1984 Los Angeles Olympics overall captain James "Demosh" Omondi.

“The last time we met she was lucky to get away with it. I was ill prepared but still managed to dio something. Now I am coming with bad intentions,” charged Mukami as she considered seeing off Akisa. Akisa also appeared to bay for Conjestina’s blood. “I want to announce my arrival into professional boxing in style on saturday and it would be appropriate to go through the likes of Conje,” said Akisa.

Both Mukami and Akisa were rivals amateur ranks. “We are friends too but there is no friendship when we get down to serious business,” said Mukami. Mukami, who a Time Bomb promotions’ prospect dipped to 1-1 when she lost to Conjestina in a potentially explosive bout at Nyayo National Stadium that was initially declared a draw and later a win to Conjestina when judges conceded having erred on the score cards. “She can hardly be second time lucky. The judges saved her the blushes, now she is in for some rough moment,” Mukami said. Mukami and Akisa weigh-in at 72kgs to make up weight in the 72.5Kg division. All boxers were on weight at 680 Hotel.

The fight-card features three Kenya-based boxers managed by Danish Manager Henrik Risum of Risum Boxing.

Former Telkom amateur Ken Oyolo promised Risum Boxing’s Samson “The hammer” Onyango a fast and furious contest. “I have had quite a number of build ups and I believe it will be a tough one against Onyango.

Promoter Atomic Onyango, on his part, said he has plans to introduce females’ national title fights to shore up and whip-up the enthusiasm of women pugilists in the country. “We are in negotiation with the KPBC on the possibility of staging more female fights in order to help out on their ranking,” Bunde said. David Kiilu fights Maina Wacuka in a non-title while John Gicharu is on the card against a Mombasa opponent.

OKUSI COMPELLED TO JUNE 30 MANDATORY DEFENCE
17:00hrs : 02th May, 2008

Thomas “Black Rhino” Okusi has up to June 30 to defend his heavyweight Kenya title or face the axe
Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC) Secretary Shaban Ogola asserted at a Time Bomb Press briefing that the “Black Rhino” has clung onto the title far too long and “will be stripped off the diadem if he doesn’t put it on the line then.”

Ogola said Okusi has been lined up to fight challenger Raymond Ochieng’ in a mandatory defense failure to which the belt will be declared vacant earning the latter a chance to fight top contenders among them Joseph Akhasmba, Chris ‘Teofilo’ Sirengo and Obadiah Mwangi.

Both Akhasamba and Sirengo have held the coveted title and have been branded grandfathers by extrovert Ochieng’. But a furious Akhasamba has cut short his sabbatical to consider laying his hands on Ochieng’.

“This is for real because it seems Okusi is playing tricks. He has been playing a hide and seek game by demanding some really unrealistic figures that are surely unaffordable to local promoters,” Shaban said.

As the debate on the coveted heavyweight title rages on, there has is already some good humored rivalry with that a general perception that Okusi has chickened out.

Okusi’s camp has since demanded Sh 100,000 which Bund
